At South Baltimore Learning Center, we mourn George Floyd and the violent way his life was taken. Sadly, George Floyd is not a case study of one. He is joined by Ahmaud Arbery, Freddie Gray, Breonna Taylor, and countless others whose lives were cut short by racism and injustice. And we mourn all of the injuries and deaths in the last two weeks of protests in Baltimore and beyond.

What do we offer?

Outrage and horror.

And renewed commitment.

We cry as our country struggles to become a genuine democracy that embraces opportunity for all people.

Each morning, the South Baltimore Learning Center community wakes up committed to Life Long Learning and growth through our core organizational values: Respect. Equality. Inclusion. Compassion. Personal Integrity. Communication. Trust.

We honor adults building their knowledge and skills, working to improve their lives and the lives of those they love.

We honor the South Baltimore Learning Center staff who know that growth takes many forms and that learning doesn’t always come from a textbook.

Lifelong learners, staff, board leadership, and all of our volunteers share a deep commitment to creating a society committed to equality, continuing to tackle structural racism.

We learn. We teach. We grow. We work together.

We will do no less.
