“Philosophy of continuous improvement; becoming one percent better every day.” – “Kaizen” (n.)
As we wind down Summer 2023, I’m excited to share a few highlights that brought our organization closer together. First and foremost, the SBLC Team set a record of enrolling 211 learners this summer alone for Adult Literacy and GED Preparation courses. We applaud the many Baltimoreans who took a courageous leap of faith and decided to choose us as their premiere learning institution. To that end, here are a few things we accomplished this summer.
  • Increase in ABE (Adult Basic Education) Enrollment
  • Increase in NEDP (National External Diploma Program) Enrollment
  • Successful Book Lovers Event for SBLC Stakeholders and the Community At Large
  • Provided 174 Tutoring Hours to SBLC Learners
  • Enrolled 75 Learners into Train Up
  • Completed First Cohort of our T.A.M.A.R Workshop Series
Although, we may not feel it currently, Fall is just over the horizon. With that it’s time to shed the things that no longer serves us and prepare ourselves for the newness that each season brings. This is the time that we as an organization are reflecting and refining our programming to create a dynamic learning experience for our adult learners, cultivate supportive professional learning communities to improve instruction as well as secure more opportunities for workforce development and occupational training. Recently, we were able to secure a grant through the Knott Foundation to provide brand new computers, laptop carts and tablets for our learners and staff. This upgrade of technology further supports our goal of being a digitally proficient organization that utilizes technology the right way. Our Team has worked consistently and collaboratively to achieve many of the goals set forth and here’s what’s to come.
What’s to come:
  • Fall Registration Begins August 28th, 2023
  • Fall Semester Begins September 25th, 2023 – December 8th, 2023
  • Fall Virtual Open House – September 21st, 2023
  • South Baltimore Mindfulness Project (Learn More)
  • High Level GED Course – Fast Track
  • Fall Festival coming soon
  • Financial Literacy Workshops – Ongoing Dates
In closing, thank you for your generous support of SBLC | Learning Works. I would like to personally invite each of you to assist us in making a difference by donating to further support our work of closing both educational and career gaps. Your donations will aid us in providing general operating support to sustain the urgent work that we do.
All the best,
