From the Executive Director

Sid Wilson SBLC The core motivation behind SBLC is to support the desire in each person to learn and excel to the highest points of her or his abilities and potential. Through education, we customize content to fit the personal, unique needs or professional aspirations of our learners.

With the signing of President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, more than ever, our mission is relevant to support the economic recovery and advancement of the Baltimore region. As Wes Moore stated in his recent commentary in The Baltimore Sun, “We must focus on jobs because a significant segment of Baltimore City’s working population is effectively unemployable due to lack of a high school diploma or advanced degree, low or no job skills, unaffordable and inaccessible transportation options, and a criminal record — often a result of policies that criminalize poverty and race.”

SBLC is on the front lines of the possibilities for a new Baltimore. Our Instructors and Staff, including our Workforce Development Manager, Sean-Touré Thames, are thinking beyond the classroom, delivering professional development and career readiness skills to ensure our learners utilize their education to live a better life.

Wherever life for our learners may have started, and whatever its destination, we encourage you to support them and continue the journey with us. Please consider becoming a volunteer or making a donation today.

Sincerely,

Sid Wilson
Executive Director
